prof examIELTS (International English Language Testing System) is a standardized test of English language proficiency jointly managed by University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, the British Council and IDP Education. IELTS is accepted in more than 150 countries and more than 2 million candidates took the test in 2012. The test is intended both for those who want to enroll in universities or other institutions of higher education (Academic) and for those planning to undertake non-academic training or for immigration purposes (General Training).

The Listening and Speaking Modules of the test are the same in both formats; however, the Reading and Writing Modules are quite different. The Academic Reading and Writing Modules assess whether a candidate is ready to study or train in the medium of English at an Undergraduate or Postgraduate level. The emphasis of General Training is on basic survival skills in a broad social and educational context. It is suitable for candidates who are going to English speaking countries to undertake work experience or training programs not at degree level, or for immigration purposes.
